Computers and the Disabled

The computer age has changed many things for many people, but for the disabled the computer  has ultimately changed their entire life. Not only has it made life exceedingly easier for all disabled age groups, it has also made them able to be more employable in the work force. Previously unemployable people can now gain the self esteem from fully supporting themselves. Computers have given them the advantages of motion were it had not previously existed.Disabled children now have the advantage to grow up knowing that they can one day be a competent adult, that won’t have to rely on someone else for their every need. Windows 95 has made many interesting developments toward making life easier for the nearly blind and for the deaf, including on screen text to synthesize speech or Braille, and adaptive hardware that transforms a computers audible cues into a visual format. Computers have given the limited back their freedom to be an active part of the human race.

According to the Americans with Disabilities Acts, any office that has a staff of more than fifteen people now has to provide adaptive hardware and software on their computers, so that workers with disabilities can accomplish many tasks independently. Before this Act was passed the disabled were normally passed over for jobs because of their handicap, now however employers can be assured that people with disabilities can work in the work place just like people without disabilities. The self esteem disabled individuals have gained from the experience to work and be self supporting, is immeasurable.

Computerized wheelchairs have given disabled people a whole new perception on life. It has given them the mobility to go just about anywhere they want to go. It has given them the ability to  explore an unknown world, and progress intellectually as well as spiritually. Computerized vans allow many disabled people to drive, by having onboard computerized lifts to place the disabled in the driver’s seat. Movement sensitive hardware, as well as computerized shifting devices allows the disable to control the van with very little physical movement. Children with disabilities now have access to many computerized devices that enable them to move freely in their home as well as outside. The battery operated bigfoot truck, much like the ones that we buy for our own children to play on have been adapted and computerized  for children with special needs. These trucks have been designed  for  even some of the most limited children to operate with ease. With the newest technology these children can now go to public schools with their peers, and have an active social life. They also are learning that there is a place in this fast paced world for them, and are teaching the rest of us that with strength and the will to succeed, all things are possible.

The Windows 95 help system was designed to help users with hearing,motor and some visual disabilities, they include information on the built-in access features. The controls of these features are centralized in the Accessibility Options Control Panel. This specialized control panel lets the user  activate and deactivate certain access features and customize timing and feedback for a limited individual. A program for the disabled called StickyKey helps a person who doesn’t have much control over hand movement to use a computers   delete command, or any other command that normally uses both hands.  StickyKeys allows a disabled person to hit one key at a time so that they can access a multi-command without pressing multiple keys simultaneously, it also allows for mistakes by deleting any accidentally hit key that isn’t held down for the set amount of time. To use a mouse a person needs complete control of hand movement. MouseKeys assist the disabled with the use of the arrow keys on the keyboards numeric keypad to move the mouse around the screen. ToggleKeys is another program that aids the disabled, it provides audio feedback for certain key strokes by providing high and low pitched beeps that tell the current status of Caps Lock, Number Lock, and Scroll Lock keys. Windows 95 offers several features for those with limited sight. They make a high contrast layout that can be scaled to multiple sizes for easyreading. Their program Showsounds lets you set a global flag that shows sounds in a visual format.

In an age when computers seem to be used in just about every aspect in life, the disabled have found something that makes their lives more endurable. Considering the limitations that they have overcome in their everyday lives the disabled should be commended for the strength and will, that has let them overcome, at least somewhat, the difficulties the world provides. The computer age has brought them many changes and they have adapted and excelled in them. With Windows 95 and programs like it, the computer world has been brought to almost everyone, even people born with limited

Disability Insurance – It is a necessary evil

Many people think that disability insurance is only necessary for people who are in high risk, physical professions. But, in reality, all of us face the risk of acquiring temporary or permanent disability that can prevent us from working. This can put you and your family into deep financial trouble. Thus, disability insurance is something that every one of us need.

According to a survey created by world’s leading insurance company, Metlife, almost 80% of the working population in America doesn’t have adequate insurance to prepare it from any such casualty. This is when studies show that 3 out of every 10 people in their 20s stand a chance to become disable before they retire. As the cost of living and medical expenses rises, it can affect a person’s life in more ways than one.

In America, a number of people believe that they don’t need disability insurance as they can depend on social security. However, not many people know that they social security covers only those who have total and permanent disability. It doesn’t give any benefits for people who are partially or temporarily disabled and are unable to earn a living.

In other words, if you get injured or ill and are not able to perform your present profession, but can move on to another profession, then social security won’t cover you. It will only cover those who are unable to work a livelihood from any other source.

In such a scenario, you won’t be able to get benefit for any disability that prevents you from doing your present job. Disability insurance doesn’t have any such conditions. It provides cover for all kinds of long term and short term disabilities and ensures that you don’t have to suffer through financial crisis due to any such tragic incidents.

Lack of disability insurance forces most people to dig into their savings, in such a scenario. Even though, many people think that they can survive on their emergency funds in case of a short term disability, depending on your savings is never a good idea.

First, you cannot predict exactly how long it will take for you to get back to work. Second, even though your savings might be enough to sustain for a long time, but you cannot predict any urgent financial needs that might arise during this period.

In order to get the best disability insurance cover, educate yourself about various policies available. You can go online to get a disability insurance quote from various insurance companies. The best way to ensure that you get a good deal on this is by comparing the disability policy quote of different companies.

The best thing to safeguard yourself and your loved ones from such a scenario is to get a disability insurance as soon as possible. Even if you have an employer sponsored disability insurance, it is advisable to take additional cove for rainy days. This is because most employee sponsored disability insurance will pay you only 50% of your salary at the time of the disability, which will obviously won’t be enough.

10 Things You Need To Know About Social Security Disability

1.  Social Security Disability Benefits Are Insurance Benefits Independent Of Financial Status. Workers and their employers pay Social Security taxes (FICA) to the federal government to purchase old age, survivors and disability insurance benefits. If you become disabled, you may be entitled to disability insurance benefits regardless of your financial status.

2. If Disabled — Be Sure To Claim Benefits. If you have worked and paid Social Security taxes within recent years and become disabled according to the Social Security law, you can draw Social Security Disability benefits even if you are financially secure. If you are disabled and don’t file, it could cause a reduction in your Social Security retirement benefits.

3. Do Not Wait To Claim Disability Benefits. If you wait too long to file for these benefits, you could lose a lot of money. You should contact an experienced attorney immediately upon becoming disabled to discuss your potential claim.

4. No Attorney Fee Unless Benefits Are Obtained. Attorney fees are set by Social Security law. If your claim is paid, your attorney is paid 25 percent (up to a maximum of 00) of your past due benefits. If your claim is turned down, your attorney fee is zero. Therefore, the fee is usually the same no matter which lawyer you hire so it is best to hire an experienced attorney.

5. An Experienced Attorney Increases Your Chances Of Obtaining Benefits. It is not mandatory to hire an attorney to represent you when you have your judge hearing, but claimants who are represented by experienced counsel win much more frequently than those who do not.

6. Hire A Lawyer BEFORE Your Hearing. The best time to hire an experienced attorney is before your judge hearing. If you go to the hearing without counsel and lose, you can appeal the judge’s unfavorable decision to the Appeals Council, but the Council only pays about 2 percent of the appeals. Statistically, your best overall chance of winning your claim is to have an experienced attorney representing you at your Hearing.

7. Workers’ Compensation Weekly Benefits May Affect Your Social Security Disability Monthly Benefit. If you are receiving workers’ compensation benefits, you may still be able to draw your full Social Security Disability insurance money. Even if you are in an offset situation, there can be many advantages in winning your Social Security Disability claim. Again, an experienced attorney can advise you of your rights.

8. Some Private Insurances Do NOT Offset Social Security Disability Benefits. Certain private long term disability policies (LTD) offset the Social Security Disability benefits, but others do not offset and allow you to draw the full amount from both sources. You still should pursue your Social Security Disability claim even if you draw LTD and Social Security is offset. This can protect your earnings record for Social Security Retirement Benefits. It is always best to call an attorney experienced in this area of law.

9. If Disabled Between Age 62 And Age 66, File A Claim For Social Security Disability Benefits. If you are getting early Social Security retirement (e.g., starting at age 62), and, thereafter, have medical problems, you may still be eligible for Social Security Disability which would increase your monthly benefits by up to 25 percent.

10. Always Hire An Experienced Social Security Attorney. The present lifetime value of the average Social Security Disability claim is over 0,000.00. Since there is a lot of money at risk, it is your best interest to retain an experienced Social Security Disability attorney. Our firm is second to none in Social Security Disability experience in both Upper Michigan and the Northeast Wisconsin areas that border Michigan.

One of the things I get asked a lot is how I play ps3, how I manage the controller when I have absolutely no finger function. So I thought I’d film me playing to show everyone how I do it, and also why I’m not the most skilled gamer. Hmm.. I probably should have commentated while playing… ah well! :P Here is a little about my disability, then I’l try and explain exactly how I manage the controller as you can’t really see it all. I did have a fully functioning human body until I accidentally broke it on a bouncy castle. I broke my neck at level c5/c6 but with the way it healed i’m more of a c6/c7 complete. Which means that I’m paralyzed roughly from the nipples down. I have no movement in my legs or trunk, and my arms are affected meaning the muscles at the back are weaker. I also can’t move any of my fingers, which can be a bit of a bitch, but I get by fine with various techniques I have developed. My brain is 100% intact, so having old ladies coming up to you in the street and talking to you like you’re a child is a little annoying.. but I aint bitter. So I play a lot of video games and it took me a while to figure out the techniques to allow me to play at a reasonable level (I do have my good games! :P ). So for MW2, I use my left palm or ball of my hand for the left stick, have to take my hand off it to use my thumb for the D-pad. I vary between using my right hand ia similar fashion for the right stick, and twisting my left hand over so I can aim while I shoot. I

It cannot be denied that a disability, whether mental or physical restricts the normal life of a person. In addition, it may not be wrong to say that disability might seem to be like a dark tunnel which does not have any escape. At times, a disability can cause severe problems to the everyday life of an individual, be it the professional front or personal life. Moreover, the matter is made worse by the financial difficulties posed by a disability in the form of costly medical treatment.

Being disabled should never be considered as the end of the road. The government of Canada ensures that a disability does not always imply a sorry state of affairs. On the other hand, having a physical or mental disability entitles you to several benefits, primarily disability tax credits, disability tax benefit and others like the Registered Disability Savings Plan.

Always keep in mind that you are entitled to receive the disability tax benefit. So nothing can stop you from obtaining what you deserve and need. However, since there are several kinds of disability tax benefits, you need to find out the ones for which you are eligible. In addition, you must also find out the eligibility criteria for availing different benefits. Likewise, depending on the specific condition and case, you or somebody else can avail other disability benefits. Besides this, you can also opt for a savings plan like the Registered Disability Savings Plan.

If you are a parent taking care of a disabled child below 18 years, your child is eligible to receive the Child Disability Benefit. This benefit is available to the families looking after a disabled child. Likewise, if a disabled child below 18 years of age qualifies for the Disability Tax Credit, he/she might also be eligible to receive Child Disability Benefit. These benefits are a great help to the families caring for a child suffering from a prolonged physical or mental impairment.

Availing these benefits might not help you in getting rid of your problems completely, but your financial difficulties can be reduced to a great extent. Moreover, always remind yourself that a disability benefit is created to reduce the difficulties of your life. Although the task might need some effort from your end, but the benefits you are entitled to receive are definitely worth it. So, it is only commonsense to make an effort to gather information about different disability benefits which you are eligible to receive.

The Different Types of Hip Fractures That May Need a DePuy Pinnacle Device

Although all three types require surgical intervention, all three do not require a total hip replacement. Femoral neck fractures are more likely to be corrected with a total hip replacement. Total hip replacement surgery is only indicated with intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures if severe complications (e.g., nonunion, secondary displacement, avascular necrosis), should cause the initial surgery to fail. Procedure in Claiming Disability Benefits in West Los Angeles

West Los Angeles is a district in Los Angeles with an affluent neighborhood. Its central location has made it a locus of commercial development, with several high-rise office buildings.

It may seem that people in an affluent neighborhood like West Los Angeles are without need of disability benefits.  The contrary appear, however. In fact, some of its residents just like any other are in bad need of disability benefits.

Claimants may encounter some problems that usually arise in pursuing those benefits. In which case, West Los Angeles Disability Benefits Lawyers are always within reach at this part of California.

Disability Benefits

Disability is inevitable. Studies show that a 20-year-old worker has a 3:10 ratio of becoming disabled before reaching retirement age.

It is always an advantage to be knowledgeable with the programs of the government that deal with disability.

Disability benefits are paid through two programs: the Social Security disability insurance program and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.

Who are entitled?

Social Security pays benefits to those who cannot work because they have a medical condition that is expected to last at least one year or result in death.

Federal law observes this very strict definition of disability. While some programs give money to people with partial disability or short-term disability, Social Security does not.

Earning Requirement

In general, to acquire disability benefits, you must meet two different earnings tests:

1. A “recent work” test, which is based on your age at the time you became disabled; and

2. A “duration of work” test to show that you worked long enough under Social Security.

How to Apply

There are two ways on how to apply for disability benefits. You can either:

1. Apply online at www.socialsecurity.gov; or

2. Call this toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213, to set an appointment.

When to Apply

As soon as you become disabled, you should apply for disability benefits. This is because it can take a long time to process an application for disability benefits, usually three to five months.

What to submit

To apply for disability benefits, you will need to complete an application for Social Security Benefits and the Disability Report.

In doing so, the following information must be submitted:

• Social Security number;

• birth or baptismal certificate;

• Names, addresses and phone numbers of the doctors, health providers, hospitals and clinics and dates of your check ups;

• Names and prescribed amount of all the medicines you take;

• Medical records from your doctors, therapists, hospitals, clinics and caseworkers in your possession;

• Laboratory and test results;

• A summary of where you worked and the kind of work you did; and

• A copy of the most recent W-2 Form (Wage and Tax Statement) or a federal tax return for the past year, if you are self-employed.

In addition to this form, other forms must be filled out. One form gathers information about your medical condition and how it affects your ability to work. Other forms give doctors, hospitals and other health care professionals who have treated you permission to send information regarding your medical condition.

Upon disability, it is always advisable to file your disability claim without any delay.
To help you with disability claims and other related issues, you can seek the services of our skilled Los Angeles disability benefits lawyers. You can log on to our website to avail of our free case evaluation.
